Large stretches of the world’s forests are disappearing quickly and could be entirely lost much sooner than expected.

It is estimated that 7.5million hectares of rain forest are being cut down each year, which is the same as 20 footballs pitches every minute.

Replacing these trees is a slow process and results in the soil becoming infertile and species becoming homeless and extinct.

Globally, paper use has grown more than six times in the last fifty years. Recent reports state that a fifth of all the trees that fall in the world are used to make paper, and a fifth of all energy used globally by industries go into papermaking.
